An awareness program on National Registration Certificate (NRC) and Right to Information (RTI) was held on 1st March 2015 at Dhula, Dist. Darrang, Assam by Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) Assam chapter. Highlighting on the current situation of Assam, Parashmoni Singha, Director of Human Rights Action Council Assam said that the state faces continues rise of extortion, kidnapping and killing by anti-social and anti-national outfits. He said crime and killing in the villages, cities and State-Border is rising day by day and said the Police and Armed Forces fails in curbing such outfits. Corruption is prevailing in the system from politicians to peon. Due to which many files of the common people remain untouched or have not forwarded for approval or grant. Human and moral values have declined. He urged the attendants to be conscious, serious and co-operative in completing NRC.
Ajmeer Hussain, RTI Activist explained the meaning of RTI and make aware regarding how to get information on various issues. Nurul Amin Pathan, Social Activist highlighted the Gazette of India-Extraordinary-2, published by Ministry of Home Affairs. He told audience how the list of documents is admissible for inclusion in NRC.
Md. Asif Hussain, State Coordinator, APCR Assam Chapter advised the participants to maintain their documents properly and remain in touch with the activists of APCR. He also said a Clean NRC would assist to detect the foreigners and help India to grow. In his concluding speech he advised the participants to co-operate with administrative machinery.
